Enable Build 9878 Style Start Menu In Build 9926 Of Windows 10
By know you probably have upgraded your existing Windows 10 build to the recently released 9926 build or some of you might have even performed a clean install of the build by downloading the ISO file and then installing Windows 10 from USB.
Those of you have used previous builds (9841, 9878 and the leaked 9901) for some amount of time probably have noticed that the Start menu in the newest 9926 build is slightly different from the one in the previously released builds.
Although the current Start menu is nice and there is nothing wrong with it, many users who have used the previously released Windows 10 builds feel that the Start menu in the previous build was much better for desktop users and was easy to use for users coming from Windows 7 and Vista.
The new Start menu is more or less like the Start screen of Windows 8/8.1. The old-style Start menu was offering the best of both Windows 7 and Windows 8’s Start, and most users were happy with it.
Since Microsoft is considering users feedback seriously in the development of Windows 10, and considering that Windows 10 is still in Preview stage, we might see a new, improved design in the coming builds.
That said, you can easily enable build 9841 and 9879-style Start menu in Windows 10 build 9926 by editing the Registry. Follow the given below instructions to restore the old-style Start menu in 9926 build.
Step 1: Open Registry Editor by typing Regedit.exe in the Search box or Run command box.
Step 2: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Step 3: On the right-side, create a new 32-bit DWORD value and name it as EnableXamlStartMenu. Set the value to 0 (zero) to enable the old-style Start menu.
Step 4: Finally, restart Windows Explorer or reboot your PC.
